Form N-400 FAQs

Must I wait five full years to file N-400?+

Some five-year and three-year applicants may file up to 90 days early, but all other eligibility requirements still apply.

Does a trip over six months affect naturalization?+

It may disrupt the presumption of continuous residence; absences of one year or more generally present greater risk, subject to specific exceptions.

Must an arrest without conviction be disclosed?+

Generally disclose arrests, citations, and outcomes as asked and prepare certified records even if dismissed or sealed.

Can this worksheet be filed directly with USCIS?+

No. This is a N-400 preparation and English review worksheet. Transfer the answers to the current official form or USCIS online system.

Should AI translate a person's name?+

No. Use the existing English spelling on the passport or official record. Names and identification numbers are never sent to AI.

Why are the fee and mailing address not hardcoded?+

USCIS changes fees, Lockbox routing, and online-filing eligibility. Verify the official page on the day of filing.
